Here is a list of my personal favorite multiplayer games, specifically with local co-op, but will mention if these games have online co-op as well.
Overcooked 2
Platforms: AllPlayers: 2-4Local co-op or Online co-op: Both
Chaotic cooking action! You feel like a professional chef and an idiot at the same time. Super fun and stressful game.
Platforms: All
Players: 2-4
Local co-op or Online co-op: Both
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime asks players to work together to pilot a pink spaceship through dangerous galaxies, running between guns, thrusters, and shields. This might be too tricky and challenging to play with just two people but definitely doable.
Cuphead
Platforms: AllPlayers: 2-4Local co-op or Online co-op: Both
Unravel 2
Platforms: AllPlayers: 2-4Local co-op or Online co-op: BothYou work together to solve puzzles in this platform adventure game. Many puzzle-solving games, but have to say this is a personal favorite.
LEGO
Platforms: All
Players: 2
Local co-op or Online co-op: Local
Any and all of them, seriously. They never miss.
A Way Out
Platforms: AllPlayers: 2Local co-op or Online co-op: Both
Castle Crashers
Platforms: AllPlayers: 2+Local co-op or Online co-op: BothA 2D side-scrolling hack-and-slash video game where...oh no! The princess is in another castle!
Human: Fall Flat
Platforms: AllPlayers: 2+Local co-op or Online co-op: Both
Gang Beasts
Platforms: AllPlayers: 2+Local co-op or Online co-op: BothClassic beat-em-up party game with whacky mechanics
It Takes Two
Platforms: AllPlayers: 2Local co-op or Online co-op: BothI mean if you haven't heard anything about this game by now.....cool! You will be in for a treat. I cannot recommend this game enough. It was an amazing ride from start to finish. From the animation and unique creativity to a touching story, it was difficult to not beat the game in one sitting.
Rocket League
Platforms: AllPlayers: 2+Local co-op or Online co-op: BothYou are a race car with insane boosters hitting a giant ball trying to get it in the goal with other race cars. Yeah, I think that pretty much covers it.
Divinity Original Sin II
Platforms: AllPlayers: 2-4Local co-op or Online co-op: BothThe critically acclaimed RPG turn-based combat with a compelling story. Please do yourself a favor and check it out if you have not!
Platforms: AllPlayers: 2-4Local co-op or Online co-op: Both
Journey to Savage Planet
Platforms: AllPlayers: 2-4Local co-op or Online co-op: BothHonestly, quite a fun adventure game to do with a partner. Explore a charming and hilariously chaotic alien world.
We Were Here Together
Platforms: AllPlayers: 2Local co-op or Online co-op: Online onlyThe only game in my list that has no local. WWHT is a puzzle-solving adventure in which you and a partner must prove you can communicate and work together. Communication is KEY because you are separated throughout the puzzles and have to describe everything you are seeing/doing.
Escape Academy
Platforms: All
Players: 2
Local co-op or Online co-op: Both
Just like WWH, but you are with your partner and it is more like your typical everyday escape room, only you are escaping death. A school where promising students train to become the ultimate Escape Room Master. DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?
The Forest
Platforms: PC and PlayStation 4
Players: 2
Local co-op or Online co-op: Both
The Forest is a survival horror video game on a remote heavily forested beautiful peninsula. A slight catch where you must fight off cannibalistic monsters.
A sequel is out for early access (as of Feb 23,2023) PC only. I have not had the opportunity to check it out yet.
Grounded
Platforms: Xbox and PC
Players: 1-4
Local co-op or Online co-op: Both
Another survival, action-adventure video game where you fight cannibalistic creatures in the form of a bug and/or insect. Grounded explores survival on a whole new level and sticks out in the creativity department.
Struggling
Platforms: All
Players: 2-4
Local co-op or Online co-op: Both
A little challenging game we got here! It is a physics-based co-op platformer with a twisted spin on teamwork. You have to work through solving puzzles together by controlling the arms of this....thing.
A frenetic FPS guarantees a fun time. The co-op will allow you to play the full main storyline and all the side content with a friend. Remember that whatever game session it is will garner the most benefits in advance, and certain perks and/or upgrades, etc., would be locked for your partner depending on their personal solo progress in the game. Regardless, this doesn't affect the overall gameplay. Their progress done in your sessions does save, so no worries there.

That's it for now! Will most likely update it in the future :). What is your favorite couch multiplayer game?
