It is October so you already know: Halloween is all month. One of my favorite things to do during this time (actually, if we are being honest, all year round) is to watch Horror movies. The amount of horror movies I have seen in my day is quite a lengthy list. Searching for one can be rather difficult because I. have. seen. it. all. The amount of times I Googled "Good horror movies" to just discover I have seen 90% of those said movies in every article I find; you can only imagine my dismay. And, thus this list was born. I wanted to share my personal favorites and in the hopes YOU have not seen most of them.
Better Watch Out
Do not fret, this movie has nothing to do with Santa Claus (or does it?). Sh*tty parents, a babysitter, a boy who is being babysat by said babysitter is in love with her and top if off with home-invasion aaaaand that is the premise of the movie. Overall, a bit mediocre movie, but entertaining nonetheless.

Triangle
It's impossible to describe the plot in detail without ruining what an mind-bending gem it is. A boat trip that turns horrible--is the best way to describe it. Smart and beautifully constructed so I definitively encourage those to watch this.

We are What we are
Slow-burning, high-tension horror piece. This movie follows a family who cling onto specific ancient customs. Then suddenly, it begins to rain and the family becomes threatened. I know, I know, that makes no sense, but if I say anymore, I just may spoil it. Best to go in blind!

Hellhouse LLC
15 people were killed during a haunted house tour. 5 years later, a curious documentary crew visits the scene to investigate the events that occurred. This movie had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Coherence
This is one of those movies that will have you on Google for explanations and theories--for good reasons though! Plot: Strange things happen at a dinner party when a comet passes. Boom. That is all you need to know. The source of unease is philosophical which gives the movie a 'horror-feel'.
Hostile (2018)
Worldwide epidemic has caused an apocalypse. The movie follows a woman as she encounters a mysterious creature that lurk in darkness. This movie is a real head shaker, but deserves to receive some recognition.
Available on: Amazon Prime Video
The Prodigy
This movie is not too high on my list, BUT Violent children are and will always be scary. The movie adopts the classic "The Omen" formula: Parents are ecstatic to learn how intelligent their son is, doctors expressed concerns, insert supernatural force here.
Available on: Amazon Prime Video
The Domestics
Post-apocalyptic world where a couple travels across the country for safety. Along the way they make friends....that are murderous gangs who are divided into factions that may or may not all hate each other *thumbs up*

Southbound
Southbound is an anthology horror film, a very cohesive and weird 5-part indie film. All characters are connected within this desert highway. A lot of viewers have compared this to 'Twilight Zone'.

The Boat
A lone sailor gets trapped on a sailboat--that's it, that's the plot. I would not necessarily labeled this as a 'horror' film, but elements are there. I really applaud one-liner movies that purely relies on the actor, who did a fantastic job in expressing those moments of pain, delusions and confusion throughout.

Spiral (2019)
The actor for the main protagonist, Malik, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman pulled off an phenomenal performance. A same-sex couple move to a small town in search of a better environment for them and their 16-year-old daughter. Cue in the weird white neighbors!
Echoes of Fear
Alysa inherits her grandfather's house and moves in to provide some TLC and fix it up. She soon begins to hear strange sounds in the night and begins to feel as if there is something in the home. The movie checks off most things off of the "Haunted House" genre checklist, but within it's own path which creates a unique ghost tale.

Incident in a Ghost Land
A traumatic event occurred to a mother and her two daughters. 16 years later, they reunite at the house where it all happened. The plot twists were very 'twisty' and I enjoyed the entire ride.

Tigers are Not Afraid
This one is a foreign film and believe me there are a lot of gems, which includes this. There is a Mexican Drug war and a young girl finds herself lost and devastated. She then travels with a street gang, who are all children, that leads to chain of super natural events.
Available on: Amazon Prime Video Shudder, AMC+
After Midnight
This movie is just a quirky mash up of sh*t. Is it horror? Comedy? Drama? Romance? Or Science fiction? ALL OF THE ABOVE?! It is by no means the most phenomenal movie ever, but I found it rather entertaining.
Available on: Amazon Prime Video
Ashes (2019)
Supernatural events plague a family when they bring home the cremated ashes of an estranged aunt. Kind of went in blind on watching this one (I barely found any reviews on it), but I was quite pleased with it.
Available on: Amazon Prime Video, Shudder
The Cleansing Hour
A very 'streaming-2020-era' movie, two dudes who are trying to "make it big". They stage various and extremely elaborate exorcisms until one of their girlfriends becomes possessed by a demon.
Available on: Amazon Prime Video, Shudder
